Expanded Teen Area

As part of the library's expansion we will be opening an exciting new area for teens. The new teen area will be 35 feet wide by up to 20 feet deep and is located on the southwest corner of the library of the main floor. It will offer three computers devoted to just teen use as well as teen fiction, nonfiction and graphic novels. This is an area that teens can call their own! In fact, the mayor's youth council and the library's volunteens will help in the design of the teen room.

Just wanted to say I am very excited about the improvements to the library especially the new Teen section. My son and I visit the library quite often and as he is getting older (he's 12) and he is starting to outgrow the youth section. Although it has been a wonderful place for us to hang out and catch up as he has been growing up.

My question is: In the new teen section will there be a private place for kids to do homework? Such as a closed off office where the kids can study together without bothering other visitors to the library. We have been to the Downtown Toledo Library and they have rooms such as this which are very helpful as there have been times my son and I have gone to the library to do research or do homework, study for tests etc and there is no such place here like that.

The new teen area will have several study tables along the window side of the room looking out on Maumee. It is expected that having the teen area under the new mezzanine will help keep the sound from this area (and the new coffee shop) from reaching out into the rest of the library. We are planning for another area of the teen space to be used for more casual seating but do not plan on separate study rooms due to safety and security concerns. I am hopeful the teen room space usage will address the study needs of your son and other teens. We will also offer sections of the mezzanine on the south side of the building for study use as well.
